Farila Neshat (* 1994 in Kabul), is a conceptual artist, researcher and founding director of B.Ā.A.R. STUDIO/ Building with Art, Architecture for Resilience based in Vienna. Her artistic research is rooted in a trans-local biography spanning the polycentric landscapes of Central Asia, including Kabul, Islamabad, Tashkent, Bishkek, and Almaty. This trajectory engendered a nomadic epistemology, enabling the artist to deconstruct socio-spatial stratifications and translate macro-political realities into aesthetic experiences that resist cultural erasure.
In Neshat's work, the investigation of the phenomenology of space is presented as a reinterpretation of architecture, moving beyond its conventional perception as functional infrastructure to redefine it as a >performative archive<. This concept is employed to underscore the transient nature of human identity. Her large-scale installations and sculptures explore the psycho-geographical entanglements of the subject, positioning the built environment as an intrinsic agent of social memory.
She adopts a methodology of vernacular innovation, reintegrating traditional, regenerative construction techniques into contemporary discourse. The fusion of anthropological inquiry and bio-political awareness in her work enables it to transcend physical presence, thereby functioning as a catalyst for socio-ecological resilience.
Her formal foundation in Fashion and Textile Technology and Graphic Communication Design gives her a unique ability to combine haptic materiality and visual semiotics. In 2024, she completed a diploma in drawing and printmaking at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. Neshat is currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Environmental and Bio-Resource Management at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna (BOKU).
