WOVEN REALITIES THE DIVERSITY OF AFGHAN HOMES AND RITUALS

The conceptual approach of this project draws parallels with the process of 'memory', understood as a vague, abstract and primordial process. The perception of the complexity of a living space is presented through the perspective of a child, with sensitivity, exaggerated proportions, human interactions and elements such as a multifunctional shelf, a terrace as a place to sit and a door as the only access playing a central role.

The conceptual approach of this project draws parallels with the process of 'memory', understood as a vague, abstract and primordial process. The perception of the complexity of a living space is presented through the perspective of a child, with sensitivity, exaggerated proportions, human interactions and elements such as a multifunctional shelf, a terrace as a place to sit and a door as the only access playing a central role. However, these traces of trauma and the pursuit of security were overcome through abstraction, reduction to the essential and the creation of intimacy in the space.

The project deals intensively with questions of human coexistence, the construction of places and the design of spaces, emphasising the unique relationship between human consciousness and the spaces we inhabit, and showing how spaces can shape our inner life. Drawing upon Gaston Bachelard's 'Poetics of Space', the profound interconnection between physical spaces and human memories, reflections, and sentiments is accentuated. Rituals, as symbolic techniques of enclosure, transform 'being in the world' into 'being at home', thereby fostering a sense of connection and belonging.
